Description: The Neem tree is part of the mahogany family Meliaceae and it is one of two species in the genus Azadirachta, Neem evergreen trees are said to be native to the Indian subcontinent, but they have been introduced to many different areas in the tropics. To obtain neem oil, seeds from the neem tree are crushed, and then combined with water or a solvent. Neem oil varies in colour, and has a strong odour. It has many medicinal properties, and has been widely used as a traditional medicine. Neem oil varies in colour: it can be golden yellow, yellowish brown, reddish brown, dark brown, greenish brown, or bright red. It has a rather strong odour that is said to combine the odours of peanut and garlic. It is composed mainly of triglycerides and contains many triterpenoid compounds, which are responsible for the bitter taste.
